Over the last decade, digital cameras traditionally seen as tools of only still photography have leapt ahead - allowing access even to hobbyists to professional quality video footage. Members Han and Charmaine, (the duo behind Tripeaksimagery) conducted an engaging and insightful workshop for our members on nature filmmaking on Saturday, 20 Sep 2025.
Designed for beginners, the workshop covered the full spectrum of nature filmmaking. In the interest of making this an accessible starting point for all, Wondershare's Filmora was utilised as free-to-use teaching aid to allow members to understand key concepts while affording a hands-on experience.
Han introduced participants to the essentials of planning, shooting techniques, and storytelling strategies, while also sharing practical advice on the gear that can make a difference in the field.
Charmaine followed up with a hands-on demonstration on post-production, showing how raw footage can be shaped into compelling narratives with the thoughtful use of audio and text.
It was a rewarding afternoon filled with learning, inspiration, and creativity. Participants walked away not only with new skills, but also with fresh appreciation for the dedication and passion that go into filmmaking.
A big thank you to Han and Charmaine for generously sharing their craft and experience with the NPSS community! (You can follow their work on Instagram @tripeaksimagery @itsweehan @charmainewanders.)
